How Does CBD Oil Work for Pain Relief?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the 113 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. It is the most researched chemical component, along with THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). These two chemical components are used in many ways to manufacture a wide range of cannabis-based products. In this post, we will discuss how CBD oil for pain relief works.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from cannabis plants. It is mixed with a carrier oil, such as hemp seed oil, to make it ready for consumption. CBD oil offers a range of health benefits, including pain relief, promoting sleep and reducing stress, but it has gained popularity due to its effectiveness in treating pain and seizures.

How Does CBD Oil Work for Pain Relief?

CBD oil works for pain relief by interacting with the human endocannabinoid system, which everyone has. Studies show that CBD interacts with the body’s CBD receptors, creating anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects that help with pain management.

CBD Oil for Chronic Pain

Many studies in the US have shown that CBD oil is effective in treating chronic pain. An article published in Frontiers in Pharmacology stated that CBD oil for pain relief helps in relieving chronic body pain, arthritis pain, migraine pain, cancer treatment pain and inflammatory pain.

CBD Oil for Cancer Pain

In 2007, Canada approved the medical use of CBD oil for cancer pain that proved unresponsive to other medications. Canada also approved the use of Sativex for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis-related central neuropathic pain in 2005. In addition, in a 2010 study on cancer-related pain, it was revealed that CBD oil is more effective in pain relief than using opioids alone.

CBD Oil for Arthritis Pain

A 2016 study using CBD gel on rats with arthritis showed that CBD oil has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects which could potentially help people with arthritis. In the study, researchers applied CBD gel to rats for four consecutive days. The rats received either 0.6, 3.1, 6.2 or 62.3 milligrams (mg) per day and researchers noted reduced inflammation and less overall pain in the rats’ affected joints.
